Fine Wine with Caroline! Saturday, April 21st, 3-5 p.m., $30 per person. We’ll have our own Caroline Graeub, recently here from Napa. We’ll do a blind tasting of delicious Pinot Noirs from regions in California. Caroline will give you tasting notes, lots of background, and tell you stories about her time as an assistant winemaker. We’ll also be serving light snacks…and then, the student that guesses correctly all wine regions get a free bottle of Pinot! Kentucky Derby Party & Cinco de Mayo Karaoke! We’ll start the day, Saturday, May 5th, with a lady’s hat contest (think Pretty Woman!), great finger foods like Mini Hot Browns, Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Tarts, and Mint Juleps. Then we’ll watch the Derby. After that, we’ll set up our terrific Karaoke Host Josh Lee with his 100,000+ songs and sing & dance our little hearts out until midnight. More details to follow.

Fruits and vegetables are just gorgeous as spring is in full swing (enjoy it now before the mosquitoes take us all away), so we are taking advantage of it. This week we’ve added another Spinach Salad, and this one has a Hot Bacon Dressing as well as Bacon (seems to be my theme ingredient), Sliced Egg, Mushrooms, and Red Onion. Posole Rojo is back with New Mexico Chiles – just add a little squeeze of lime and … perfection, especially with the Stone-Ground Corn Muffin! For those of you that are eyeing bikinis this summer (yes, I eye them, too, but only in catalogs), we have a Roasted Red Pepper Soup that is so tasty & good for you that even your bikini will be too big. Among other items, our Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwiches are back and so is our Pesto (the basil is spectacular) with Sun-Dried Tomatoes. Mmmmm. Desserts: Crème Brulee, Chocolate Mousse with Chantilly Cream, Bananas Foster, Laura’s Bread Pudding, and Fruit with Chantilly Cream.
We sang and danced ourselves silly on St. Patrick’s Day when we gave it up for Karaoke. Super fun – so we’ll be scheduling that again, along with another Cheese Class and a Wine Tasting. And on a personal note, Easter is only a couple of weeks away, and I plan to put away a rasher or two of bacon that day. Just so you know.

I gave up Bacon for Lent. Torture. I’ll be eyeing small animals in about two weeks, and think that there is probably enough barbecue sauce in the world to cover the taste of raccoon.
With weather warming up a bit, we are taking advantage of nice fruits and vegetables and also throwing some spicier foods your way. Since I gave up bacon (yes, I know I already mentioned that, but am craving sympathy) I need something with a kick to it to satisfy my pork cravings! We have a Spicy Crawfish Dip with a little cayenne bite and a new Hot Cheese plate served with Marinara & Ranch. If you haven’t ever tried Halloumi cheese, give it a shot – we’re crazy about it. Some new salads and dressings – Spinach-Strawberry with Strawberry Vinaigrette, Greek Salad with Kalamata Olives, Feta Cheese, and Tomatoes topped with Green Goddess dressing. We have some new soups, too: Clam Chowder, Spicy Tomato Bisque, and Butternut Squash Soup. And new pasta: Ravioli stuffed with Italian Sausage & Parmesan and served with Marinara. For dessert, we have Chocolate Mousse with Chantilly Cream, Bananas Foster with Ice Cream, and Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing.
